Searching for a new piece of furniture for that empty-looking nook in your living room? Don’t run off to Ikea; instead simply pick up a few thousand drinking straws at the grocery store. Voilá! You’ve got yourself a chair. While this sounds like a puzzling suggestion to most, it’s perfectly practical for artist Scott Jarvie. His “Clutch Chair” made from 10,000 colorful straws won the 2008 Noise Festival Curator’s Choice Award. Jarvie’s commentary on our disposable culture is food, or rather, drink for thought.
