Classic Black & White Gets A Modern Makeover!

image There is not a more classic color combination out there than black and white. No matter the occasion or place, black and white is tried and true and will always make an eye-catching contrast. Whether it’s a dressy outfit or a more casual ensemble, these two basic but still so important colors and a few choice accessories are the only necessities you need to make a statement. However, classic tried and true can sometimes mean cliche and boring and that’s one fashion faux pas that none of us want to commit! No worries, though, because black and white has gotten an edgier and more modern makeover that will take traditional to sensational with just a few new trends added into the mix. Want to give your classic blacks and whites a chic and new look? Just check out the slideshow for some ideas on how to amp up your black and white wardrobe!

Be Fresh-Faced In Any Weather With These Rain-Proof Beauty Picks!

image Personally, I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I hate the rain (after all, my plants need nourishment somehow). I’m cool with it as long as it doesn’t get in my way, like that time it postponed my 9th birthday party picnic or those few hundred times it drenched my freshly flat-ironed hair. However, life usually requires that I go about my day rain or shine, and despite my wishes, it doesn’t conveniently drizzle only when I’m already cozy in bed watching TiVo’d episodes of Tough Love. So what else can a girl do other than be prepared? Unless you’re caught in a freak-of-nature sudden downpour, there’s no reason you have to show up at work, class, or a date (heaven forbid!) looking like a bizarre mix of a wet rat and a watercolor gone wrong. With the slew of water-resistant beauty products and frizz-fighting hair care on the market these days, you can face off with any weather and still show up looking first-rate… as long as you don’t actually end up swimming in the puddles. Check the slideshow to see how you can rain-proof your mane, mascara, and even bronzer!

Shoe Of The Week: Priscilla Sandal by Topshop Boutique

image I’m still trying to decide if I think these Priscilla Sandals are super chic or straight-up scary. Let’s just say I’m really intrigued. But whether you love them or hate them, either way they made you do a double-take, right? They look like a fascinating breed of part peacock, part snake, part zebra (ZOMG striped platform!), a little Rihanna, something gold and purple… and some triceratops perhaps? Okay, I’m probably way off, but whatever the origin, the result is some no-joke fierceness. So if you decide that these are, in fact, a pair of platform heels you’d love to be caught dead wearing, make sure you’re prepared to do some serious strutting.

What: the Priscilla Sandal by Topshop Boutique

Where to Buy: Topshop

Burberry Shines with Emma Watson for S/S 2010

image I’m going to be honest – I’m not into the Burberry plaid, but I gotta give them chops for hiring Emma Watson as their spokesmodel because they’ve hooked me into taking a second look at their designs. Here she is with her model brother, Alex (left) and George Craig. The ads are simple and sleek, letting the timeless designs really take center stage. They all look so adorable – I want to squeeze them. And the chic and classical looks are making me dream of spring. Chic Eats: The New Village Oyster Spot

choptank

For those of you not sticking to the Blueprint Cleanse this January, a new spot on Bleecker Street demands your attention. Choptank, the new Chesapeake Bay-themed spot opened by Bobby Werhane (of Dell’Anima and l’Artusi) and Josh Morgan, is all about oysters, shrimp, and linguine alla vongole. On Saturday night, when Chic visited the joint for a pre-opening birthday party, it was all about cupcakes…but that’s another story. At any rate, it’s exactly the kind of food you want in January. Start with a half-dozen huitres, follow-up with the salmon and lentils, go easy-ish on the champagne and call us in the morning. THE DETAILS: Choptank, 310 Bleecker St between Seventh Ave South and Grove St, 212-675-2009

Daisy’s Swarovski Star Quality

daisy lowe svarovski

It’s part of the It girl job description to have your designing moment, whether it’s handbags for Samantha Thavasa (hey Tinz!) or Peaches‘ PPQ offerings, but Daisy Lowe may win the shiniest prize, picking Swarovski as her collaborateur of choice. The British model has created a line of jewelry for the brand, available beginning January 20. The collection, inspired by the elements and featuring plenty of moons and stars in a black, blue and green palette, includes this necklace, a pair of dangly earrings, and a longer tangle of pendant-style necklaces in the collection. Click this link for a video of Daisy sketching, building, and (naturally) playing dress-up in her personal pieces.

Rain, Rain, Don’t Go Away

fred flare umbrellas

Chic Report has a tendency to lose (or break!) every umbrella we touch–although, admittedly, most are of the bodega variety, procured minutes after the rain starts to fall. What we really need is an incentive to hang on, and these Fred Flare varieties, each, should do the trick. How could you misplace the gold Buddha, navy sailor, or green geisha? Small enough to stash in your bag, cute enough that you’ll want to show off—yes, we’ll do our best to keep these in-sight at all times.
