J.Lo, Katy, Or Vivica: Who Rocked Basic Black Best At The "This Is It" Premiere?
![]() |
It’s no surprise that a documentary on the late and great Michael Jackson would draw in a crowd of A-list celebrities, all wanting to show their love and support for the King of Pop. The tragic and sudden death of the greatest entertainer of all time sent shock waves through the community and “This Is It” is one way to commemorate Jackson, as well as keep him with us for a little longer. Everybody who’s anybody, and their mom and kids, showed up dressed to impress with styles ranging from dressed up tees to floor-sweeping gowns. One common color that celebrities showed up in was chic head-to-toe black ensembles that were edgy, sexy, sleek or just plain sweet. Perhaps it was out of respect for the loss that the Jackson family and the rest of the world has recently endured, but there’s no denying that they all looked like “Pretty Young Things.” So who do you think rocked the basic black look the best? Was it Jennifer Lopez in her edgy black panel sheath and rockin’ knee boots? Or perhaps you preferred Katy Perry’s lacy, glittering gown? And there’s no question that Vivica A. Fox looked smoking in a body-hugging, one-shouldered mini. Take the poll below and let us know who you think looked best at the Michael Jackson’s “This Is It’ Premiere!

Video Style Steal: Alicia Keys Is Sad But Sultry In "Doesn’t Mean Anything"
![]() |
Alicia Keys has quite a lot of success under her belt for a woman at 28 (but then again, what else would you expect from a girl who was accepted into Columbia when she was 16?), with her shelf full of Grammy awards and four chart-topping studio albums. Aside from her musical growth (and ascending movie career), we’ve also seen quite a progression in her hairdo — from neat braids to unruly curls and now sleek and straight in her latest video, “Doesn’t Mean Anything.” But her hair isn’t the only thing that’s polished and chic. In a sparkly tunic, Alicia is classy as usual, and while she may be mournful and lonely in the video, I know I’d be much more cheerful if I had a hot pair of stiletto boots like hers! Check the slideshow to see some Alicia-inspired looks from her latest hit vid. |
Ginnifer Goodwin Wears A Dress Made Of Hospital Scrubs
![]() |
If you ever get a chance to walk around the streets of San Francisco, aside from endless views of the fog and rolling hills you’ll notice numerous buildings that make up the Academy of Art University. Since the Stylehive office is neighbors with an Academy of Art building, I’ve seen some super snappy dressers milling about the neighborhood. Based on their long history at New York Fashion Week, I know that their students will make it in the art and fashion worlds. And it already looks like a few students got a head start! Priscilla Guimarais, Kumiko Haruyama, Nui Tanapornwattana, Audrey Wang and Tramaine Tillman created a collection of sustainable dresses for a class project. “Big Love” and “He’s Just Not That Into You” actress Ginnifer Goodwin wore one such piece from the collection at 20th Anniversary Environmental Media Association Awards in Los Angeles. Made of hospital scrubs, the fabric was treated, dyed and pleated in a fabulous strapless dress. The future is bright and totally green for the lucky students and I can’t wait to see more! Brighten Up Your Fall Beauty Routine With Yellow Eyeshadow
![]() |
Bright primary colors and neon shades are perfect for waking up a winter wardrobe, and this trend is making its way into the beauty department as well. Pastel yellow is too weak to stand up to the bold clothing shapes that we’re seeing right now– these yellows are anything but mellow; they’re bright, bright, bright. And while they may seem hard to wear, in actuality yellows and golds accent blue and green eyes and bring out the gold flecks in brown eyes. Sweep some over the entire lid for a look that’s shiny and bright. Or, take a cue from the Marc Jacobs runways and pair with some smoky black liner for a high contrast look. You can even sweep it on the brow bone and out to the temple. Check out the slideshow for some products to get the look. |
Attention boys: Drew Williams will be at VFW!

Listen up gentlemen: if you’re looking for the newest trends for male fashion you might want to check out what Drew William has in store for Vancouver Fashion Week.
The Edmonton born designer initially pursued photography while on scholarship at Emily Carr University in Vancouver. It wasn’t until 2006 while in London studying design at Central Saint Martins, when the young designer began to experiment with textiles and differing cutting methods. Drew William showed his designing skills last season at VFW; this season I’m excited to see what he will showcase.
The young designer’s previous collection was a visual experiment of oppositions in unity. Most of his gallery shows the pattern cutting is a reflection of fluid motion colliding with geometry.
Drew William will debut his Spring/Summer 2010 men’s collection on Sunday Nov.8th at Colin Campbell at 4pm. Mark your calenders! I know I will personally be taking tips from Drew’s collection for the next time my boyfriend and I go shopping!

Sting Hits Uzbekistan!

Yes, the Art Week Style.Uz 2009 in Tashkent has already passed, but we’re still talking about it. Like we told you few weeks ago, Sting made it all way to Uzbekistan for the event, where he joined beautiful Dr. Gulnara Karimova (center) front row at fashion shows and beyond. The superstar closed the week with a concert at the Tashkent Sate Opera and two giant screens were positioned in the square outside the State Theater to accommodate all of those who couldn’t get tickets to the charity performance. And believe it or not, the entire city knew every word to nearly all the songs in the set. The Grammy winner even extended his stage time to the delight of the Uzbeki crowd…
